Whether a beginner, intermediate or expert, float with an experienced guide down the Bitterroot River, or its West Fork or East Fork for a memorable day of trout fishing. Fly Fishing Always guides are renown in the valley for their historic and extensive knowledge of these waters. These ORVIS endorsed guides are experts on the hatches and proper flies to use, whether it’s an old faithful such as Big Freddy or whatever it might take to catch the big fish. In order to protect and preserve the stream-bred trout of the Bitterroot’s blue-ribbon waters, all fishing is catch and release. Please note, the months of May and June can be high water with limited fishing and scenic float availability due to snow melt. Complimentary ORVIS fishing gear is available from Triple Creek Ranch and your guide will furnish the rods, reels, flies and his/her expertise. Your guide will meet you in the Activity Center of the lodge at your scheduled time. Some guides have boat dogs. If you would prefer not to have a boat dog, please let us know upon booking your trip. Half day and full day guided river floats are priced from $370 – $460 with a 50% deposit due on advance bookings. A 30 day cancellation fee is enforced. A Montana Fishing License is required for fishing on the river, and our Activity Coordinators will be happy to help you procure one. Availability is somewhat flexible with as little as a day’s notice, though we recommend you reserve trip(s) in advance to ensure a preferred guide or a preferred day. A full day trip runs from 9:30am to 4:00/5:00pm. Half day trips depart at either 8:30am or 1:30pm. Guides will meet guests in the Activity Center at their scheduled time.
Rawhide Outfitters on the Salmon River
In July and August Rawhide Outfitters guides specialize in drift and wade fly fishing, dry or wet fly fishing and/or spin casting, depending on personal preference. You will drift through a lovely section of the Salmon River, occasionally stopping to wade good runs. Catch and release is encouraged. Anglers will tend to average 20 to 40 fish per day, rainbow and cutthroat trout ranging from 12 to 18 inches. A fisherman size hot lunch will be prepared for you riverside. Guided fishing costs $430 for 1-2 people per boat and is payable to Rawhide Outfitters. An Idaho fishing license ($12.75 for 1 day) is required. Guests drive themselves just an hour and fifteen minutes from Triple Creek Ranch to meet their guide at North Fork, Idaho at 9:30 am. Cancellation within 24 hours is full price. Complimentary rain gear and wading equipment is available from Triple Creek Ranch. Availability is somewhat flexible with as little as a day’s’ notice, though we recommend you reserve trip(s) ahead of time to ensure a guide on your preferred day.
Summer Trout Fly Fishing & Spin Casting on the Salmon River with Rawhide Outfitters is available in July and August. Trips are scheduled Sunday through Friday from 8:15 am to 5:00/6:00pm.
In the fall, Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River is an unforgettable adventure! Rawhide Outfitters’ guides have years of experience to ensure the highest possible success rate using a wide variety of both traditional and modern methods. The hatchery steelhead returns have been very successful with a strong native run as well. Guides use dory-type drift boats equipped with heaters. Guides will instruct you with a variety of fishing methods, such as trolling plugs or bait and fly fishing, depending upon the preference and skill level of each guest. A fisherman size hot lunch will be prepared for you riverside. Guided fishing costs $420 for 1-2 people per boat (rates do not include a 6% Idaho sales tax and 3% Forest Service user fee) which is payable to Rawhide Outfitters. The Selway River is the most pristine fly fishing river in America. Fly into the roadless region of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness land at Running Creek Ranch airstrip where your guide will be waiting for you. The thirty minute flight to the banks of the Selway River takes you over the awe-inspiring Bitterroot Mountains, then into the untraveled wilderness of Northern Idaho. Once landed, travel by horseback or hike to a fisherman’s heaven. Famous for Cutthroat, Rainbow, Bull Trout and Steelhead, the Selway River is one of America’s rare natural treasures. In order to protect and preserve the stream-bred trout of the Selway’s blue-ribbon waters, all fishing is catch and release. An additional cost of $1,395 for 2 guests will be added to your cabin invoice. A fifty percent deposit is due upon booking. Cancellation within 48 hours is 50% or if within 24 hours, full price. Please note, because we can only fly into the wilderness, this adventure is subject to weather conditions. Guests drive themselves to Hamilton Airport, just 40 minutes from Triple Creek Ranch.
Selway Wilderness Fly Fishing offers a limited number of trips in late September through October. Trips depart at 8:15am and you’ll return to the ranch by 7:00pm.
Swan Mountain Wilderness
Fly over western Montana’s scenic Bitterroot Valley, Mission and Swan Mountain Ranges and over the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area in ‘Glacier Country.’ Land on the grassy Condon airstrip near Swan Mountain in the Flathead Wilderness Management Area and meet a guide from Swan Mountain Outfitters. From the point of aerial take-off till the excursion is over, take in the beautiful alpine lakes, waterfalls, crystal-clear rivers and streams, and tranquil forests lush with ancient cedars and a variety of pines. Experience fly fishing for the elusive bull trout, in total solitude away from human distraction. Fishing gear is provided for a guided float trip down the wild and untamed Swan River, or choose to wade along the banks led by an experienced fishing guide. In order to protect and preserve the stream-bred trout of the Swan River’s blue-ribbon waters, all fishing is catch and release. Private flight and desired Swan Mountain activity described above is $1,895 for two people, which will be simply added to your cabin invoice. Guests drive themselves to Hamilton Airport, just 40 minutes from Triple Creek Ranch. Cancellation within 24 hours is full price. The Activities Coordinators will assist you in filling out a pack lunch to take with you.
