Watch the magic unfurl as hat maker Rich Sublette demonstrates the skills involved in creating stunning cowboy hats at the Double H Hat Shop, located in Darby, MT.

Begin with a tour of the showroom to see the wide array of beautiful beaver fur and palm leaf hats, as well as any special projects in progress. Then go behind the scenes into the workshop to view vintage cowboy hats and learn the importance (and durability!) of a high quality hat that will truly stand the test of time. With years of tutelage under Master Hatter Jimmy “The Hat Man”, Rich will then detail the intricate steps involved in shaping the perfect hat. 

Want to give it a go?! At the end of the class you will also have an opportunity to purchase your own Palm Leaf hat and shape it yourself if you like, with the help of the experts of course, and wear it back at the ranch on your next horse ride through the glistening snow or show it off during cocktail hour in the Rooftop Lounge.

After class, if you are ready to go all-in and become a bona fide cowboy/cowgirl, you can even commission your very own fully custom Double H cowboy hat to be shipped to you upon completion. *Pricing varies widely based on your chosen customizations, and is payable directly to Double H Hat Shop.

Sessions are held late Tuesday afternoons, December through March, for a maximum of 4 guests per session. Shuttles to/from the hat shop will be provided. Visiting in the Summer? While our Double H Hat Workshop only runs during our winter season, the shop is always open to browse and order all year round!
